About the ArtistsThe 2009 Perry Chalk Art Festival Feature Artists are Sarah G. Phillips and Sally Ann Miller of Rushford. Sarah Phillips taught physical education for the first 30 years of her career, then became an arts and crafts instructor for the final six years. In 1997, Sarah retired to Rushford, NY, and in 1998 she opened Auntie's Place studio where she creates her own work and teaches art to children and adults. Sarah's lifelong love for birds, animals, nature and rustic country scenes is reflected in her art. The subject dictates her medium, which typically include watercolor, oil, pencil or scratch-board. Sally Ann Miller is a native of Jamestown, New York who taught Art and Reading during a twenty-year tenure with Pioneer Central School District. Since her retirement in 1997, she has devoted her time to writing poetry, with her work featured at The Screening Room in Buffalo. Sally states that art and creativity have always brought joy and meaning to her life. Her drawings are detailed with an abstract quality and the imagery is rendered with an emphasis on light, using a layered, multicolored palette.
Creek Bend specializes in contemporary and traditional bluegrass with a smattering of Cajun, country and humor. They've won the Gettysburg and Erie County Fair Bluegrass Championships and their recordings have been hailed with critical acclaim.
